Using a free product to grow your audience
. 3 min read.
A free product isn’t charity. It’s how people try your work before they pay for it, and it gives you something valuable in return: the email address of someone interested in what you make.
What makes a good free product
- It solves one small problem completely. A checklist, a mini template or a short guide, not a trimmed-down version of your paid product.
- It leads somewhere. If your paid product is a full template pack, the free one could be a single template from it.
- It’s quick to use. People should get value in minutes, while they still remember where it came from.
Put it next to your paid products
On your storefront, a free product sits alongside paid ones. Visitors who aren’t ready to buy have something to take, and they see what else you offer. On Sellpage, free products ask only for an email and send the download link straight away.
Follow up, but respectfully
When someone downloads your free product, they’ve shown interest, not agreed to daily emails. Send something useful first, and mention your paid product when it genuinely helps. Always make it easy to unsubscribe.
Watch what happens
Your analytics show how many visitors take the free product and how many go on to buy. If many download but few buy, the paid product may not be the natural next step yet. Ask a few of those people what they need.
